Racing Point’s recruitment drive ahead of their rebrand as Aston Martin F1 Team for 2021 continues with the appointment of Jefferson Slack – who has worked with basketball legend Michael Jordan – in the newly-created role of Managing Director for Commercial and Marketing…

Billionaire Lawrence Stroll is putting the building blocks in place to move his Silverstone-based team up the grid, with the Racing Point owner signing four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel to drive alongside his son Lance next year, replacing Sergio Perez.

Ahead of the renaming of the team for next season, Stroll has signed Slack, who will be responsible for all commercial and marketing activities and will report to Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer.

Slack joins Racing Point, who are currently fourth in the constructors’ championship, with immediate effect, with a CV that features 30 years of experience across the sports industry. He managed basketball star Jordan’s marketing activities before moving into sports private equity with the Hicks, Muse firm.

Otmar Szafnauer: Vettel's Aston Martin contract a 'boost for team'

He later became the first American CEO of Italian football club Inter Milan, and also boasts sports agency experience with Wasserman and IMG, and has spent time as a commercial adviser in the two-wheel arena with Dorna, the commercial rights holder for MotoGP.

“With the progress we have made this season on the track and with our upcoming relaunch as Aston Martin F1 Team, we have a unique opportunity to create an iconic new sports property that’s at the forefront of Formula 1,” said Stroll. "We are delighted to appoint Jefferson Slack to help us realise the full global commercial and marketing opportunities that lie ahead."

Szafnauer added: “I am delighted that Jefferson is joining us in the newly created role of Managing Director. He will be responsible for leading all our commercial and marketing activities as we look to build one of F1’s most successful teams, both on and off the track.”

Slack said “I believe this is one of the most exciting commercial opportunities, not just in Formula 1, but in the whole of the sports industry.
