F1 FANTASY: What were the best and worst teams for the British Grand Prix?

Share
CIRCUIT PAUL RICARD, FRANCE - JUNE 23: Robert Kubica, Williams FW42, leads Kevin Magnussen, Haas

At Silverstone, Lewis Hamilton won his home race for the sixth time – but could he back that up with an appearance in the optimum F1 Fantasy team? We run down the best, and worst, F1 Fantasy performers over the British Grand Prix weekend.

There were 15,734,602 potential valid combinations for this weekend's action, giving you, the F1 Fantasy player, a mere a 0.000006% chance of picking the ‘Best Team’ below. Four of you managed it this time around, however, by generally being clever sausages, so well done to you.

Here’s who they went for, along with the team that should have been avoided like a gravel trap in a cloudburst…

Best Team

Britain BEST

Total points: 245
Budget: $99.6 million

Lewis Hamilton: 63 points
Carlos Sainz: 48 points (Turbo Driver)
Valtteri Bottas: 47 points
Daniil Kvyat: 17 points
Robert Kubica: 12 points

Constructor: Red Bull – 58 points

With neither Mercedes driver having featured in the ‘Best Team’ after Austria – the first time that had happened this season – they both made it back in post-Silverstone, for reasons that probably don’t need explaining.

McLaren’s Carlos Sainz makes his fourth appearance in five races in the ‘Best Team’ after coming home sixth, backing that up with his second Turbo Driver nomination of the year.

Daniil Kvyat and Robert Kubica’s progression up the order on race day – Kubica jumping five places to finish P15, while Kvyat went from 17th to a points-scoring P9 – helped them to round off the ‘Best Team’, Kubica making his first appearance this year.

Meanwhile, with a lot of the ‘Best Team’ budget having already gone on both Merc drivers, a solid afternoon from both Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly helped Red Bull be the ‘Best Team’ constructor for the first time this season.

Worst Team

Britain WORST

Total points: -42
Budget: $42.8 million

Romain Grosjean: -11 points
Kevin Magnussen: -28 points (Turbo Driver)
Lando Norris: 3 points
Antonio Giovinazzi: -11 points
Alexander Albon: 2 points

Constructor: Haas – 3 points

Haas’ miserable run of form of late is also translating into some nasty F1 Fantasy stats, with both Grosjean, Magnussen, and Haas themselves featuring in the ‘Worst Team’ for the second consecutive race weekend. Grosjean’s tally for ‘Worst Team’ appearances now stands at seven in fact, while one of either Grosjean or Magnussen has appeared in this segment at every race bar one this year.

Elsewhere, Antonio Giovinazzi’s DNF puts him in the squad for the fourth time this year, while Albon and Norris’ fall down the order in the race – Norris because his strategy failed to pan out under the Safety Car brought out for Giovinazzi, Albon because he physically couldn’t go into the pits to get his tyres changed given the electrical fault on his Toro Rosso – mean that they also make their fourth appearances in the ‘Worst Team’ in 2019.
