Betting odds for the Spanish Grand Prix – Who is favourite for the win in Barcelona?
The teams are heading to familiar ground this weekend, with Barcelona playing host to the sixth round of the season. Everyone was here back in February for pre-season running, so this weekend should prove an interesting benchmark in how far these 2022 cars have come since those initial laps. Add in plenty of upgrades throughout the field, and the scene is set for what could be a fascinating weekend. Red Bull are on a roll, but do the odds reflect that?
188BET's odds are presented in decimal form: for every $1 wagered you would win the figure represented by the odds; so if Verstappen is favourite at 1.50, you would win $1.50 for every dollar bet.
The odds for the win
Max Verstappen has won the last two races, in Imola and Miami, so it is no surprise to see him installed as the favourite here from his Ferrari title rival Charles Leclerc. This was the venue for the Dutchman’s maiden Grand Prix victory all the way back in 2016, and he finished second here last season to boot.
Fresh from his podium last time out, Carlos Sainz is now third favourite at what is his home race, with the Spaniard enjoying a return to form in Florida after a run of DNFs.
Elsewhere, the bookies can’t split the two Mercedes drivers despite George Russell coming home ahead of his experienced team mate last time out and leading Lewis Hamilton in the drivers’ standings by 59 points to 36. Hamilton took the victory in Spain last season, but it might take an unusual turn of events for him to repeat the feat – that is, unless Mercedes have some potent upgrades up their sleeves.
• Max Verstappen 2.00
• Charles Leclerc 2.20
• Carlos Sainz 13.0
• Sergio Perez 17.0
• George Russell, Lewis Hamilton 26.0
• Lando Norris, Valtteri Bottas 151
• Daniel Ricciardo, Esteban Ocon, Fernando Alonso 301
• Kevin Magnussen, Pierre Gasly, Mick Schumacher, Yuki Tsunoda 601
• Alexander Albon, Lance Stroll, Nicholas Latifi, Zhou Guanyu, Sebastian Vettel 901
The odds for who will be fastest in qualifying
A rare error from Verstappen in qualifying last time out meant he had to make do with third on the grid, with Ferrari locking out the front row. Leclerc took pole from his team mate by two tenths of a second, and with three poles already this season, is favourite to add to his tally in Spain.
Sainz has been closing the gap though and is still chasing a maiden F1 pole position, and he has seemingly been finally starting to get on top of the F1-75 after admitting to struggling at the start of the season, so he might be one to watch here.
As for his compatriot, Fernando Alonso has been left ruing all sorts of bad luck this season, and certainly his car looks quick over one lap. The Alpine has looked prone to reliability woes though, so he’ll be hoping for none of those on Saturday. The odds favour him over his team mate, and after two straight Q1 eliminations (albeit the last by default after an FP3 crash ruled him out of Miami qualifying), Esteban Ocon will be another driver hoping for more luck this weekend.
• Charles Leclerc 2.00
• Max Verstappen 2.20
• Carlos Sainz 7.50
• Sergio Perez 19.0
• George Russell, Lewis Hamilton 34.0
• Lando Norris, Valtteri Bottas 81.0
• Fernando Alonso 201
• Esteban Ocon 251
• Daniel Ricciardo 301
• Alexander Albon, Kevin Magnussen, Lance Stroll, Mick Schumacher, Nicholas Latifi, Pierre Gasly, Sebastian Vettel, Yuki Tsunoda, Zhou Guanyu 901
The odds for a podium finish
Last year in Spain, race winner Hamilton shared the podium with Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas. Fast forward 12 months, and it isn’t beyond the realms of possibility that those three could feature again – although it would arguably take a chaotic race for that to happen.
The odds understandably favour Red Bull and Ferrari, who have been the two dominant teams so far this year. But with Spain often the scene for the first big upgrade packages, the pecking order could well shift slightly. So far, only the Mercedes drivers and Lando Norris are the others to have stood on the podium in 2022 – with Bottas the most likely to join that club according to the odds.
• Charles Leclerc 1.32
• Max Verstappen 1.36
• Carlos Sainz, Sergio Perez 1.80
• George Russell, Lewis Hamilton 5.00
• Valtteri Bottas 9.00
• Lando Norris 10.0
• Fernando Alonso 13.0
• Daniel Ricciardo, Esteban Ocon 21.0
• Kevin Magnussen, Pierre Gasly 34.0
• Mick Schumacher, Yuki Tsunoda 67.0
• Zhou Guanyu 151
• Alexander Albon 201
• Lance Stroll, Sebastian Vettel 251
• Nicholas Latifi 301
The odds for fastest lap
The bonus point for fastest lap in Miami went to Verstappen, the second time this season the Dutchman has supplemented his victory with an extra point. In fact, only he and Leclerc have picked up those crucial bonus points this year, showing that both clearly believe they might be important in the title fight.
The odds next favour their team mates too which is understandable, given you have to finish in the top 10 to have a chance of grabbing the fastest lap bonus point.
• Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc 2.20
• Carlos Sainz, Sergio Perez 8.00
• Fernando Alonso, George Russell, Lando Norris, Lewis Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas 67.0
• Daniel Ricciardo, Esteban Ocon, Kevin Magnussen, Pierre Gasly 101
• Alexander Albon, Lance Stroll, Mick Schumacher, Nicholas Latifi, Sebastian Vettel, Yuki Tsunoda, Zhou Guanyu 251

What are the odds for which team will take the most points?
After a run of poor reliability early in the season, Red Bull seem to have turned things around, although a sensor issue did derail Sergio Perez’s quest for the podium in Miami. The bookmakers have installed them as the team likely to pick up the most points in Spain, a track that has been a Mercedes stronghold in the turbo-hybrid era.
Ferrari will be counting on Sainz to continue the strong form he showed in Miami, hoping the Spaniard will be buoyed by a home crowd, while McLaren might be ones to watch. They looked strong here in pre-season running, but back in February, conditions were much cooler and it seems as if warmer temperatures may well be their nemesis this season.
• Red Bull 1.82
• Ferrari 2.00
• Mercedes 17.0
• McLaren 67.0
• Alfa Romeo 81.0
• Alpine 151
• AlphaTauri, Haas 351
• Aston Martin, Williams 901
The odds for a Safety Car appearing during the race
The Safety Car has been seen at every race so far this season – but the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is a traditional track that the drivers know extremely well from many years of testing. Will that lessen the likelihood of a Safety Car, or is the closer racing this year more likely to see Bernd Maylander called into action?
• Yes 1.45
• No 2.55
